What Happens Next After Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine

The focus of Russia’s advance is Kyiv. If Russia’s military fails to take the capital city quickly, the violence and ferocity of the war will escalate rapidly. In such a circumstance, the Russians taking Kyiv becomes synonymous with the Russians destroying Kyiv.

Even if, or when, Russia takes Kyiv, that does not end the war, as America learned after taking Baghdad during the invasion of Iraq. In fact, that could be the beginning of a much bloodier and uncontrollable level of fighting. Russia would face a bloody insurgency that would likely spread across multiple borders in Europe, spreading destabilization across the continent as the insurgency grows.
