During the time of the Crusades, a special group known as the Assassins arose out of the Middle East. They were led by a figure known as the “old man on the mountain.” These were expertly trained, clandestine, professional killers. They were fueled by fanaticism. Never before in history had such a small number of fighters been able to change the course of nations and history. This episode in my History of Terrorism podcast series tells the story of who were the assassins.
