Many Christians today are making a dangerous error of mistaking knowledge for Truth.

There is a difference between knowledge and Truth. This is an essential and biblical paradigm for Christians to recognize and embrace. The tree of knowledge of good and evil stood in contrast to the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:8-15). Truth brings forth life; knowledge is a more dangerous and destabilizing contribution to our lives. Jesus defined Himself as the way, the Truth, and the life (John 14:6). Truth brings freedom, love, and fulfillment, whereas knowledge risks inflating us with pride, bondage, and misery (1 Corinthians 1:8).

The contrast between knowledge and Truth is a deeper discussion for another article we might review in the future, but it is important to recognize some basic differences for now. Truth is a central fixture of the Kingdom of God. Knowledge is a central fixture of this world and it stood at the gateway of man’s exit from the Garden and into the curse (Genesis 3).

This does not mean that Christians ought to be ignorant. Not at all! But Truth must rank higher than knowledge and serve as the foundation for our embrace of knowledge.
